Hotspot Annotations: Overview

Hotspots are a type of Annotation that enable you to add and integrate other types of information and content into your 360s or 360 Collections.

Whereas the Standard Annotation is designed to enable you to view both the 360 and the annotation content at the same time (and flexible in terms of usage), Hotspot Annotations emphasize the annotation content over the 360 imagery, and are a better choice in many use cases.

Hotspot Types

Hotspots have different types, based on the content, and each renders content differently. In almost all cases, clicking on the annotation marker immediately opens a modal window with the content front center. Clicking outside the frame dismisses the hotspot.

For specifics on behavior and requirements for each hotspot type, see the Hotspot Annotation Types article.

Image/Photo

Displays uploaded image(s) in a lightbox-style presentation. Multiple images are presented in a carousel. Clicking on the annotation opens the image display. Works the same in both the Momento360 web app and embed/share links. More details here.

For more details, view the documentation here.

Embed

Displays embedded frames (iframes) from other sites in a modal window (e.g. Youtube, Google Maps, etc.). Supports all sites that allow embedding. Works the same in both the Momento360 web app and embed/share links. More details here.

For more details, view the documentation here.

Link

Opens a hyperlink in the current or a new tab. Works differently in the web app vs embeds. More details here.

  • In the Momento360 web app: Displays the URL in a panel that can be clicked to open the link.
  • In embeds: Navigates to the set URL when the user clicks on the marker.

Navigation

Navigation hotspots are like a special kind of link that let you create jump to another 360. They work in both the Momento360 app as well as embeds. More details here.

In the Momento360 app: Clicking on the marker navigates you to the details page for that 360.

In Embeds: Navigates to the embed version of the target 360. Note that the target 360 must be set to active (publicly visible), otherwise it will not display.

In Collection Embeds: Navigates to the item in the collection corresponding to the target 360, assuming it is present. If not, attempts to navigate to the 360 embed.

Note: You can convert from a Link Hotspot to a Navigation Hotspot if you already created a link to a Momento360 embed just by changing its Hotspot type. We will detect which 360 you are pointing to and select it.

Audio

(Paid Accounts Only) Play an uploaded audio file when the annotation is clicked. Unlike all other annotation types, it remains open (and playing) as the user continues browsing the 360 and views other annotations (the viewer can dismiss it by clicking the close button). Works the same in both the Momento360 web app and embed/share links. More details here.

For more details, view the documentation here.

Video

(Paid Accounts Only) Plays an uploaded video file in a lightbox player when the annotation is clicked. Useful for videos that aren’t hosted by external services. For Youtube or other hosted videos, use the Embed Hotspot type (see above). Works the same in both the Momento360 web app and embed/share links. More details here.

For more details, view the documentation here.

HTML

(Paid Accounts Only) Renders HTML in a modal window. Useful for things like embedding forms, surveys, or other items that don’t quite work in the Embed Type hotspots. Works the same in both the Momento360 web app and embed/share links. More details here.
