VR icon isn't showing in mobile Safari (iOS)

The VR viewer icon used to be there and has disappeared from my embed. What happpened?

UPDATE (4/29/20): This should now be fixed. When you tap the VR/Google Cardboard button you will approve access to motion and orientation data. Once you grant it, it should then work as before.

If you are running iOS 13.1 and above: (updated April 13,2020)

Currently this functionality only works if you are logged into your Momento360 account. It will prompt you for motion access when you open a 360-degree image, which you will need to grant.

Known issue: This prompt does not happen in the case where the user has not logged into their Momento360 account, which is the vast majority of the time. This is an issue that we are aware of and will be fixing in the near future.

If you are running iOS 13.0:

The iOS 13 update has made it so Safari cannot access motion or orientation data without explicit permission, which also disables gyroscope mode on Apple mobile devices. Safari will now prompt users explicitly for permission when a 360 is attempting to be viewed. Note that Google Chrome requires no permissions and should work the same. (updated Nov. 7 with fix)

If you are running iOS 12.2:

The recent iOS 12.2 update (March 2019) changes Safari so that you have to enable motion data access to the Safari browser (we need motion data in order to figure out what direction you’re looking in VR mode).

To grant access:

Go to Settings, scroll down and tap on the Safari section:

Scroll down and there will be an entry “Motion & Orientation Access”:

Enable it so it’s on:

If you go back you should now see the VR icon.
